Camino Frances - Sarria - Santiago - Day 7

Ribadiso to Salceda

sunny 30 °C

15km, 28k steps.

A bit longer day today and hot. We decided to go a bit further in order to have more accommodation options. So an extra 4km to Salceda. As a result, we considered whether to walk the final 28km in 2 days instead of three, but ultimately decided to stick to the original planned stops for the remaining 3 n days of walking. We find it difficult to find recent reviews of albergues, without investing a lot of time and effort. And, having stayed in a variety of types, we're favouring private rooms over dorms, willing to fork over the extra cost to have more control of our sleep time.

This was reinforced last night in the large dormitory in Ribadiso, where loud bunkmates kept us awake until midnight, while others woke us at 5:15 with alarms ringing and loud packing up/leaving noises for 90 minutes thereafter. The municipal albergue was very clean, spacious complex with lots of great amenities, but ruined by the loudness of our fellow travellers. Guess we're just getting old 😁

Anyway, today was a lovely, sunny day, which we enjoyed despite being sleep deprived. We were mostly walking through shaded woods - which was great in the heat.

Tonight's pension Albergue Touristico de Salceda is very nice. We have a twin room with bathroom, had them do our laundry and had a tasty 3-course menu of the day, including a bottle of wine and really nice layered ice cream for dessert.

This afternoon and again after dinner, I cooled my feet in the pool. Really nice.

How much do these delicious looking meals cost?

by Kim

The fixed menus vary from €12 to €35, depending on the options. Most, including the one in the pic are about €16. So a bit of a splurge.
